Special background patterns
When you load a saved game file that you have completed the game on, you will find a new blue Toad House at the beginning of World 1. Inside are four background patterns you can choose for the touch screen. You can purchase these with Star Coins. The fifth and final pattern can be purchased for 20 Star Coins when you have collected all star coins, complete all stages, and find all hidden exits.
Saved game icons
A star will be added next to your saved game file when one of the following tasks are completed. Completing more than one will display an additional star. The tasks are to defeat the final Boss, complete all world maps by finishing all levels and locating all secret exits, and spending all Star Coins.
Unlimited Toad House items
* When you load a saved game file that you have cleared every level, including the lettered bonus levels, Toad Houses will no longer disappear after you take the items. The only exception are the ones that appear based on your timer when you finish a level.
* Alternately, if you want to have all of your Toad Houses back, save the game then intentionally lose all of your lives. When you return, all of the Toad Houses will be restored.

Extra lives
* Collect 100 Gold Coins to earn Mario an extra life.
* At the end of a stage, jump up and land on top of the flagpole to earn an extra life.
* Get a turtle shell and find an arrangement of blocks that look like stairs. Set the turtle shell down on the stairs and let the turtle inside come out. Then time it correctly and jump on his head. Mario or Luigi will keep jumping on the turtle's head, and will keep building up lives. Jump off when you feel that you have enough lives.
Easy Blue Shell
* Go inside a red mushroom house. When Toadsworth makes the roulette block appear immediately dash to the end of the roulette block. Without stopping, jump at the end of it to get a Blue Shell. Note: This requires timing and practice.
* Go to the level selection screen. You must have a Hammer Thrower in the level. Make it to them. Jump on their head. They will drop a shell. It will be blue and you can use it for yourself. Note: You will not have the opportunity for the shell if you defeat them with fireballs.
Easy Mushrooms
Ground Pound on top of a multi-coin block. After all the coins drop out a mushroom will appear. Note: You must be in a big form.
Easy Mini Mushroom
Save the game, then go into a red mushroom house. When Toadsworth makes the roulette block appear, pause game play when you see the Fire Flower. Then, immediately press A(2). You should have received the Mini Mushroom. On the touch screen, you should see the icon of a Mini Mushroom. Tap the icon whenever you want to use it. You will then become Mini Mario.

Easy Mega Mushroom
To get Mega Mushrooms in two player mode most time, let the other player get more stars (more than five at least).
Big orange mushroom
In Versus mode, get a mushroom. Then get a mushroom on the touchscreen. Collect eight more coins and the big orange mushroom will appear over your head. Note: You can only do this once per match and it does not work on all levels.
Falling items
Butt slam the ground while giant sized and miscellaneous items will fall from the sky.
Easy points
Whenever you complete a stage where the last two digits on the clock are the same, fire works will go off corresponding to the number. Each firework will get you 5,000 points. Go to World 1-1 and wait until the timer hits -99, then hit the flag. This will set off nine fireworks, giving you 45,000 points. Repeat this as desired. If you manage to get over 1,000,000,000 points, the chance of getting a Starman from a halfway powerbox increases.
Picking up turtle shells
To pick up turtle shells, you must to jump on top of them to make them turn into a shell. Then, go beside them. Hold Run then walk toward the shell slowly. You will pick up the turtle shell. Release Run to throw the turtle. Do not hold onto it for too long or the turtle will come back out of its shell and hurt you.
World 1: Warp to World 5
You must have a Blue Shell for this trick. Go to the World 1 Tower. Once you get to the first pipe that launches you up, go through the door that you see on the way up. Once inside you should be in a room with a Star Coin and another door. Go to the door, but through it. Jump up and right through the gap. It is just the right size for Mario or Luigi. Do not go through the orange pipe. Using the Shell Dash, break the blocks to the right of the pipe. You will see a red pipe on the right. Once again, use the Shell Dash to break the blocks. Go through the pipe. Go to the red flag. After you are done with the level, the map will show that you have unlocked a secret level. Go to it and go down the cannon. It will launch you to World 5.
World 1 Castle: Ride the ropes
If you have a shell you can ride on the ropes. On the ends, you will stop, but it will look like you are moving.

* When you hit the "?" block containing the Mega Mario Mushroom, run as fast as possible to the end of the level and smash everything in sight. If you crash all the way through to the flagpole, you can earn up to five 1-Up Mushrooms and run your total number of lives up quickly.
* At any time you need extra lives, go back to the World 1-1 and get the Giant Mario. Then, run as fast as possible through the entire level, knocking over anything in your way. At the end when Mario turns back to normal Mario, all the extra lives mushrooms will fall from the sky to be collected. Repeat this process as many times as desired.
* In World 1-1, there is a super mushroom. There is an enemy there. Take him out before hitting the box. Stay under the box until the mushroom falls off. Follow it to the hole. Just as it is about to fall, grab it. The mushroom will last until you get to the finish line. Repeat this until you have 99 lives. You can repeat this as many times as desired.
* Hit all the "?" boxes and you will get a super mushroom. When you get ot. you will be like a giant. Press Y and run through the level. When you get to holes you can run across them/ When you get to the flag you can sometimes knock it down. You will get 4 or 5 mushrooms every time you do it.

As fast as possible, run to the end of the level. When you get to the staircase, run through it as big Mario (the flag also). You should have the lives meter full, and you will get all the lives. Repeat this as many times as desired.

Go to where the Venus Flytraps are. There will be two blocks. Go to the first block and jump. You should see a star.
World 1-4: Easy lives
Go to the last part of that world. If you reached the flag, you went too far. Near the flag will be a pipe facing to the west. Goombas walk out through it. Get a Koopa shell from one of them and return to that pipe which is near the flag. Let go of the Koopa shell and make sure you throw it eastward. The Koopa shell will come back and forth. While it is doing that, it will hit every Goomba that comes out that pipe, which will add points to every hit. Do not touch the Koopa shell while it is going back and forth. Just jump over it every time it gets near you.
World 2-4: Easy lives
There is a Koopa Troopa coming down the stairs at the end of the level. Stand on the block in front of the one the Troopa is on and jump up so that you jump on him. Do not press any buttons and let Mario continue to jump on him. After gaining the 1,000 points, you will start to get extra lives. Let it continue until you get the maximum number of 99 lives.
World 3: Get past electric balls as Mini Mario in Bowser's Castle
First, use the middle green pipe to be shot up. Hold Up to climb and jump up until you reach the four electric balls that block your path. Go under the bottom one. You will soon be standing on top of a vertical wall. Hold X, run right, then perform Wall Kicks (face a direction and press A) all the way up the two walls until you can press Up to climb on the mesh again.
World 3: Easy power-ups
Go to the warp cannon, then go to the far right ignoring the cannon. There will be a roulette block. It contains a Starman, Fire Flower, Mushroom, and Blue Koopa Shell. Jump up under it to claim the power-up. Then, fire Mario to World 6. If you exit you will lose the power-up.
The Revolution

World 4-1: Secret mushroom house
Go to the part of the level where you ride the blue dinosaur. Get on him and when you reach the third set of blocks, jump on them. There should be two coins. Jump between them and you should hit an invisible block that has a climbing plant on it. Climb up it and it will take you to a platform with a pipe. Go through it and it will take you to a secret exit.
World 4: Warp to World 7
You will need a Fire Flower equipped and a Mini Mushroom stored. In World 4 Haunted House, go to the pipe with two red blocks beside it. Press the red button while avoiding the Balloon Boo. Get on top of the pipe. Turn mini then wall jump on the pipe to reach a ledge. Wall jump up the tiny passage above the ledge. Do not take the door yet. Wall jump even more to get the third coin, then take the door. Run to the flag very quickly because a Boo might be there. Once in World 7, save the game.
World 4-5: Easy lives
Near the beginning where there is a rock staircase that requires Bob-ombs to get through. You can place a Bob-omb on top of the second step then another in the exact middle of the layer that is left to create a sort of "bowl", where you can get the Koopa and bounce it an unlimited number of times between the walls, killing all the Bob-ombs until the time runs out. You can get 99 lives from this easily. Note: Sometimes you will need to be normal Mario to fit through the gap to reach the Koopa.
World 5-3: Fast completion
Get the blue turtle shell. Run and hold Y and run. You should like turn into a shell and start rolling like the Trapuna things when you jump on them. When you reach a bump or opening, jump.

Jump out of the ledge, making sure to stay against the wall and you will reach a platform with a pipe leading to a red flagpole. You will unlock a 1-Up mushroom house to the north of World 7-4, which never disappears. You can continue to get 1-Ups until you reach your maximum of 99.
World 7-5: Easy lives
Go to World 7-5 (the Bullet Bill level). At nearly at the end of the level, slightly before the Banzai Bill cannon, you should see two rotating Bullet Bill cannons. There is a Star Coin in the middle. Grab a Bomb-omb near there and drop it on the blocks that are in the middle to blow them up. From there, bounce on the Bullet Bills until you start getting 1-Ups.
World 8
Go to World 5. Go to the haunted house level. Go through the level avoiding monsters. Stop when you reach the platform above the lone door. You will see three blocks. Jump above them, then three new blocks will appear. Jump off the near wall until a monster appears. Destroy it, then from the new blocks jump again and a vine will appear. Climb it to a door. Go through everything in the area and exit the door. The end flag will look different. Jump while avoiding the Boo. At the world map, the cannon level will now be unlocked. Enter it and follow some steps. You will see a cannon that reads "World 8". Jump in and you will advance to World 8.
World 8: Defeating Baby Bowser and Boswer
Before entering the castle, enter an orange mushroom house and keep the Mega Mushroom you receive. Enter the castle and do not use the mushroom until the boss Battle. As soon as you can move again, tap the mushroom and grab it. As Giant Mario, simply run into Baby and King Bowser and both will be defeated. You can get the satisfaction of revenge for all of the times in the past that you ran into them and died.
Unlocking World 4 or 7 easier
At the Boss of the World 2 or 5 final castle, have a normal sized (red mushroom) Mario or Luigi, as well as a blue mushroom. Hit either of the Bosses twice, then change to the tiniest Mario or Luigi and Ground Pound the Boss. Note: Save the game before attempting this.
Avoiding Blockhopper
On levels such as World 2-5, if a "?" box doesn't have a spinning "?", it is an enemy called a Blockhopper.
Giant Luigi
Go to Toad Town dojo west and get a mushroom. Throw it at Luigi and he will become very big. Also if use on yourself, you will get bigger than Luigi and so on.
Alternate Whack-A-Mole sounds
When playing the Whack-A-Mole mini-game, poke Luigi instead of the Monty Moles. The sound effect he makes changes every ten times you hit him. If you manage to poke him thirty times, he will scream then repeat the pattern.
Dancing opponents
Pay close attention to the monsters in any level. Notice that they will do some sort of dance or jump when the chorus in the background music sings. This does not include flying enemies, Bullet and Banzai Bills, and Bosses.
Thrashmeister
Super Mario Bros. reference
At the end of any level except Bosses, touch the flag when the last two digits of the clock are the same. (for example, 311, 222, 099, 111). When the flag is lowered, the old chime (for clearing a level) from Super Mario Bros. will play as you walk into the castle. Once inside, and the flag is raised, fireworks will go off corresponding with the number repeated on the clock. For example, if the time is 099, then nine explosions will be set off. if it is 211, only one will go off. The time will also set off other events, as stated in other cheats listed.

justiniscool
World 3-A: Backwards slide
Go to the second "room". Go in the first pipe. You must be either Mega or Mini Mario to get the coin. To backwards slide, dash down one of the slopes. Turn back, still holding Dash. It will appear as if you are turning, but you will slide backwards. Make sure you hit the water before turning.
Ray Cannon Jr
World 6: Empty Boss room
In the big castle, make sure you have a Mega Mushroom in your touch circle. When you get to the Boss (the Monty Mole in the tank), touch the Mega Mushroom. You will turn into Mega Mario or Luigi. When the Monty Mole pops out of the tank, jump on it. The tank will explode, but the key will not come out. Time will stop and you cannot pause game play. You will just have an empty Boss room. You must restart the game to exit.
Bowser's Castle
* You must be quick (easier to do with a shell) for this trick. Ignore Bowser Jr. and dash under Bowser's feet when he does his little jumps. You will be at the skull switch and Bowser and Bowser Jr. will be running for you. When you push the switch, they both fall, but the ending is the same.
* If you hit Bowser with a shell or fireball, he will be gone and it will be just you and Bowser Jr.
